The Sparrows were a Canadian blues rock/psychedelic band of the 1960s. Formed in 1964, originally as Jack London and the Sparrows in Oshawa, Ontario. The Sparrows, who were the first group to bring musician John Kay into the mainstream and then renamed themselves the rock band Steppenwolf. The Sparrows started out as a beat group and their early repertoire reflected the influence of the "British Invasion". In September 1965 John Kay joined as the new lead singer.
