The Slur-Tones are a three-piece Indie/alternative punk band from Wanaka. Since leaving Mt Aspiring College last year, all three band members have been studying music and sound engineering in Wellington. Winning two major awards at the Smokefree Rockquest National Finals in 2008 gave enough incentive for Fabian Shaw (guitar/vocals), Yannick Weatell (bass) and Alistair Mawhinney (drums) to keep the band going, retaining the musical partnership between Shaw and Weastell that started in 2002. When asked about their musical influences, Shaw lists “everything from Led Zeppelin to The Mint Chicks”, adding that they are ready to head out in a rented HiAce van, and share their music with the nation. “We've had mean feedback from our live gigs, and we've learnt heaps releasing our own E.P,” says drummer Alistair Mawhinney. He adds that their main aim is to “get people on the dance floor, having a sick time”. “Imagine if Franz Ferdinand merged with The Strokes and The Mint Chicks and you’re there” - THE PRESS User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
