about

There are bands out there that are on the cutting edge, breaking new ground and pushing musical boundaries. While The Skylight Crowd certainly wishes those bands luck, they definitely don’t fall into that category. “If we’re really honest with ourselves, our sound is fundamentally based on the music we like,” smiles singer Keith Porter. “Bands like Counting Crows, Train and Hootie and the Blowfish are the reason we exist. We’ve been influenced by that genre for fifteen years, and now we’re creating music that would fit into that world.” Keith, along with guitarist Jim Cross came together as a duo in late 2008, after previously playing together in Essex-based band Adorno Stone. “Adorno Stone was a great experience for both of us, but real life got in the way,” says Jim. “We left the band at different times, but were both unwilling to give up on writing and performing, so we made things easier by keeping it to just two of us.” “We figured a good place to start would be to take some of the band’s work and record it how we originally wanted it to be,” continues Keith. “We also wanted to do it ourselves to really try to understand the recording process.” The duo also didn’t want to repeat past mistakes, as Jim explains: “Adorno Stone were a great live band, but our gigs were irregular and we didn’t have a product. There was no follow up for the audience. That’s why we decided to record first, make a CD we were both happy with, and then go out and play it.” And th
