Eclectic acoustic band The Silver Fish are well known to Belfast audiences through their performances at St George’s Market, the Europa Hotel, Crescent Arts Centre and the Errigle Inn, among other venues. With a line-up of guitar, drums and percussion, double bass, violins, vocals, and keyboard, the music of The Silver Fish mixes styles and crosses boundaries with a wide variety of original songs and instrumental tracks. Singer/songwriter Brendan Popplestone has written the twelve tracks of Cerebellum with the musicians of The Silver Fish in mind. Between them they have decades of performing experience across all genres of music. The music of instrumental tracks Les Balconies and Cutting Matisse draws on a sound world that is lithe and colourful while For Alice and Iris Lives add a personal resonance. Songs like Out of the City and Hourglass relate to the worlds of work and recreation and Walking Wounded and City of the Ghouls take on the realities of Brendan’s work as a musician within the Health Service with lyrics tinged with pathos and wry humour. Easygoing Cameron Street and Doctor Music provide a complete contrast to the kinetic energy of Sicko the Clown and Wind Your Neck In.
