The Shoegaze Project is a virtual band that defies the conventional boundaries of music and artistry, hailing from the vibrant creative landscape of Toronto, Ontario. Comprised of an eclectic ensemble—Wojak, the human frontman; Moose, a guitar-playing frog; Skelly, a skeleton on drums; and Gem, a self-playing guitar with arms and legs—this band is anything but ordinary. The origins of The Shoegaze Project trace back to a chance meeting in an online forum dedicated to the Toronto arts scene. Wojak, an impassioned singer-songwriter with a penchant for atmospheric sounds, encountered Moose, who despite being a frog, demonstrated a remarkable talent for guitar. Skelly, a skeleton with an uncanny rhythm sense, joined shortly after, followed by Gem, a living guitar seeking an outlet for its creative potential. Realizing they shared a vision for music that transcended the limits of form and genre, they formed The Shoegaze Project. Their approach to music is deeply collaborative and community-oriented. Leveraging the rich tapestry of Toronto's literary scene, the band incorporates poems from local writers into their lyrics. Each song becomes a mosaic of shared experiences and collective emotions, weaving together the diverse threads of the city's cultural fabric. The Shoegaze Project's groundbreaking use of technology allows them to exist entirely in a virtual space, blending digital art, animation, and augmented reality to bring their unique lineup to life.
