The Shadow Grounds is an experimental noise drone project based out of Portland, Oregon and headed up by David Kyle of Secret Codes and Y La Bamba. Each album is based on a book and written as a score for that book. The first EP being based on Haruki Murakam's "A Hard Boiled Wonderland at the end of the World". As well all the recordings are all site specific and recorded on battery powered gear in order to get into interesting spaces such as a cave or sewer. David uses the space he records in as an instrument itself using the atmosphere and background noises to add to his cinematic compositions. The Shadow Grounds EP was recorded live in an old abandoned Masonic Temple. This album was done as a collaboration with Portland singer songwriter Ben Meyercord and was coordinated and produced by Chris Funk of the Decemberists. David is currently working on a new album as a collaboration with Cosmos Corbin which is being recorded in a haunted corn maze.
