The Sands Family

The Sands Family hail from County Down in Ireland, where they grew up on a small farm, near the village of Mayobridge. Coming from a long line of singers, musicians, poets and story-tellers, they were immersed in the tradition from child-hood. Tommy, Ben, Colum, Eugene ("Dino") and sister Anne first came to prominence when they won a National Folk Group competition in Dublin, in 1970, the prize being a residency in New York. After further forays in USA and Canada, the Family concentrated their attention on Europe. Sadly Dino died in an Autobahn accident in 1975. The Family have made several studio and "live" albums and continue to tour very successfully until the present day, in Ireland, UK and Europe. Tommy, Colum and Ben are noted Songwriters and Solo Performers on both sides of the Atlantic and further afield.
