Artist
There are two artists with this name: 1. A punk/wave/rock band (1977-1982) from Broek op Langedijk, The Netherlands 2. A punk/powerpop band from New York, NY, United States 1. The Rousers were a rock & roll band (1977-1982) from the village of Broek op Langedijk, The Netherlands. They started out as a punk outfit in 1977, with Cock de Jong (guitars), Jan de Jong (drums), Rob Marienus (bass) and Theo van der Plas (vocals) as its members. When Theo left, brothers Wieb (guitars) and Bonne Zigtema (vocals) joined the band. By that time they had started referring to their music as 'new beat', incorporating poppier influences from groups such as The Beatles. Later, they would be considered one of Holland's first new wave bands. The Rousers released two LP albums and five 7-inch singles. Their début LP, A Treat Of New Beat, is a Dutch cult classic: the original LP is now highly collectible, its sleeve (drawn by artist, Joost Swarte) was voted one of the best ever in The Netherlands. The second album Touched was released to critical acclaim, but was a commercial failure. Disappointed, The Rousers disbanded in 1982. Some of the band mambers later re-emerged as The Thought. 2. The Rousers is a punk and power pop influenced rock band from New York. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
