The Peels

The Peels was founded by Benny Soebardja together with Gumilang Kentjana Putra, Budhi Sukma Garna, and Dedy Budhiman Garna. This band was a source of pride for the city of Bandung. The group achieved international recognition by successfully breaking into neighbouring countries, namely Malaysia and Singapore. The Peels' career in Singapore began in 1967 during a holiday visit when they were invited to perform at a concert themed Panggung Negara. Following widespread praise and a warm reception, The Peels received several performance offers. They went on to perform in Singapore at various prestigious venues, including Wisma House, the National Theatre, and the Singapore Continental Hotel, as well as appearing on local television and radio. Subsequently, The Peels released an album featuring guest artist Karlina Kartasa G., under the theme The Peels By Public in Singapore. With the addition of Soeman Loebis to the line-up, the band’s musical style grew more diverse. They no longer limited themselves to pop music but ventured into rock and psychedelic genres. This formation led to The Peels being offered a permanent contract with the management of the floating restaurant, Sea Dragon. In 1968, The Peels held concerts in various cities including Makassar, Palembang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung.
