The PDX Broadsides are a trio of nerd enthusiasts who sing acoustic songs about science, piracy, superheroes, robots, and other geeky topics. The group began as an all-female acapella arm of the PDXYAR pirate performing troupe, singing traditional shanties, pirate-themed parodies, and bawdy covers. When vocalists Jessica Hebert and Hollyanna McCollom learned that new pirate Christian Lipski was a guitarist, they recruited him to fill out the band's sound. Since then, the band has taken its own path, expanding their repertoire to include songs about their favorite subjects. The trio talk the nerd talk, but also walk the nerd walk: Hebert is a PhD student in biogenetics, McCollom is a writer (Moon Handbook to Portland, PDX Magazine Editor-in-Chief), and Lipski reports on comics news in Portland.
