Led by Needlejuice Records co-founder Austin Ash Lemon, The Odd Ditties is the culmination of Austin’s 20 years of songwriting experimentation. 8 of those were spent crafting their debut on the label: Backstage, a coming-of-age existential concept album featuring 9 maximalist world-building micro-symphonies that defy the very concept of genre. From the grandiose garage-psych title track to the prog-Dixieland-barbershop “Baby Goes Back” (about being born when Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” was #1 on the charts) to the 80-piece orchestral closer “My Room,” this LP weaves together jagged sounds and peculiar images to create a truly singular musical experience.
