The Ocean Fracture were a four piece progressive post-hardcore band from the west coast of Scotland, based in Glasgow, and formed in 2004 by core members Steven Gillies (vocals / guitar), Paul McArthur (guitar / vocals / other) and Sean Campbell (drums). In March 2006, The Ocean Fracture recorded their debut 5 track Mini Album, entitled "The Sunmachine and The Ocean" with Ben Phillips (Bossk, Jairus, November Coming Fire) at City of Dis studios in Kent. In 2007, a new single, Cesarium / Black Lung Optimism, was released independently, via the bands Myspace and online store. These two tracks showcased a very different sound to that of the EP - aggressive, dark, direct and heavy as hell. After several line-up changes - including a stint as a three-piece - The Ocean Fracture released a split with Sheffield post-metal act Bleaklow in June 2010. The two tracks were recorded by Oz Craggs (Secondsmile, Cubic Space Division, Meet Me in St. Louis) in early 2009. Since its inception, the band played or toured with many other well-known UK acts, including Secondsmile, Devil Sold His Soul, Eden Maine and Sika Redem, amongst many others, and shared a stage with luminaries from farther afield such as Young Widows and These Arms are Snakes. In October 2010, after six years together, The Ocean Fracture disbanded. A retrospective collection of demos and live tracks spanning their career was released digitally to commemorate the split.
