The Newtowns were a British beat band of the 1960s from Kirkby in the Liverpool area of the United Kingdom. They recorded four tracks over two acetates at Liverpool's Unicord Studios in early 1966, including two Georgie Fame covers ('Something' and 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow') and an original compisition ('Tomorrow'). The fourth track they recorded was 'Please Stay', later a considerable hit for local rivals The Cryin' Shames. Some of their recordings have appeared on compilations of obscure (Mersey) beat in later decades.
