about

The New Soulmen was a very-short-lived 60s rock band from Slovakia (then part of Czechoslovakia) founded by Dežo Ursiny after he had dissolved his previous The Soulmen in spring 1968. The band's career was undermined at an early stage in August 1968, when Czechoslovakia was invaded by the Warsaw Pact armies, and the general depression and situation in the country in the aftermath contributed to the group's breaking up by the end of that year. They never played a live gig and they only recorded two songs for radio which were not officially released until 1997, when they appeared as bonus tracks on Ursiny's compilation album Pevniny a vrchy. There was a rumour about a tape with the third song, which Ursiny once mentioned, but it has not been found so far. The band, along with other similar early Slovak rock bands has now a very narrow but strong community of fans and a cult following. As with all other Ursiny's bands in his early career, The New Soulmen's songs were in English. The band members were Dežo Ursiny on guitar Ján Lehotský on keyboards Fedor Letňan on bass Peter Mráz on drums User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
