The New Lightweights are a brand new collective out of ever evolving Winnipeg, Manitoba music scene. Providing a meld of folk, pop and alt-country with a little peppering of soul for good measure, they show that when it comes down to it, music is really all about the beautiful subtleties. They may be new to each other, and they may be new to you, but as individuals , Alexa Dirks, Ariel Posen, Ryan Voth and Graham Isaak have all been playing professionally in the Winnipeg scene for years now. Newly formed in December of 2008, The New Lightweights are inviting and fresh and they plan on bringing their warm and laid back sound to a venue near you... # Why This Deserves Your Attention This collective presents a thoughtful intersection of folk, pop, and alt-country that prioritizes restraint and nuance over flash. What distinguishes them is their commitment to craft: four seasoned Winnipeg musicians—each with years of professional experience—have come together to explore what emerges when individual expertise converges. Rather than chasing trends, they've built something grounded in listening, allowing soul and subtlety to shape their sound. The result feels both inviting and considered, suggesting an album that trusts its audience to find meaning in the spaces between notes. For listeners curious about contemporary roots music that values conversation over spectacle, this work offers genuine discovery.
