The Nash Ensemble of London is an acclaimed English chamber ensemble. It was founded by Artistic Director Amelia Freedman in 1964, while she was a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and was named after the Nash Terraces around the Academy. The Ensemble has won awards from the Edinburgh Festival Critics and the Royal Philharmonic Society, as well as a 2002 Gramophone Award for contemporary music. In addition to their traditional classical repertoire (Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Ravel, Shostakovich et.al.), the Ensemble performs modern and contemporary works by numerous composers including Richard Rodney Bennett, Harrison Birtwistle, Elliott Carter, Henri Dutilleux, Peter Maxwell Davies, and Mark Anthony Turnage, among others. Indeed the Ensemble has given premier performances of over 200 works to date. They have recorded many albums for such labels as Virgin Classics, Nimbus, Hyperion, and Teldec Classics.
