The Mighty Bard was formed by Dave Clarke and Neil Cockle in 2004. Neil’s previous bands had included an early incarnation of Marillion, Starlight Cruiser, The Negatives, The White Lines, and some time with Deja Vu and Friday working with Sean Burke (ex-Tubeway Army). Dave and Neil spent some time bringing their ideas together and writing new material, then recruited Mark Cadman (bass), and Gavin Webb (vocals), the four of them then shaped the core of the bands material in Neil’s loft studio in the heart of Buckinghamshire. After the addition of Aleem Saleh on drums, the group spent a few years playing various festivals (Guilfest), and some jaunts to Austria, to play the GranitArena, and then sharing the stage with The Enid in 2009. They then expanded their lineup with Mark Parker on violin and backing vocals, and the tremendous percussive talents of Andy Dovey, replacing Ian Sands who in turn had replaced Saleh. This latest incarnation has brought the band to the next level allowing them to indulge in dark and light textures, exciting rhythm and song structures, producing a very different, yet still classic sound. With huge compositions like Black Train, Blue God, Heart of the Strangelove and I Know, melodic ballads like Maybe, and Compound the Problem, and the emotive and powerful No Flesh is the New Dream, the band displays a wide range, always writing from the heart and giving the audience something which is very unusual to find in this current age of music.
