The Metropolitan Men's Choir began in 1995 in Minneapolis, MN as a parent group to the well-established Metropolitan Boys Choir. Their first singers were the choir boys' dads who loved music and sang together to pass the time while their sons rehearsed. As boys' voices changed from soprano to baritone, they joined the men, and the group sang together as fathers and sons. Under the patient direction of Tim Baurenfiend, the men learned music, harmony, and the joy and adventure of sharing performances with auidences throught the Twin Cities. As their scope and reputation grew, men from all walks of life joined the choir, sharing in the music, friendship, and laughter at the core of MMC. Still an all-volunteer organization, The MMC is now 25 voices strong and in their 16th season of making music. They explore all styles of music, from barbershop to madrigals, from spiritual to jazz, chorales, and hymns. In 2009 they were offered a once in a life-time opportunity to record a compilation of their music, the album "Heart and Voice" was released in 2010 by themselves. As it says on the CD case of their record, "We sing for the joy of it, and always reach for that transcendent moment when the voice and the heart sing as on."
