Artist
There are two bands under the same name. 1) The Maroons were a band from NYC that existed from 1978 to 1981. In 1979 they released the rare powerpop classic No Condition/Out Tonight 7β³. They played all of the historic local clubs - CBGB, Max's Kansas City, The Ritz, Irving Plaza, Kenny's Castaways, Folk City. They received interest by a small (soon to be BIG) record company called Virgin Records, also A & M records was interested. They split in 1982, later coming together in various incarnations, including the Rockaholics and the Gentlemen Callers. They were featured in the "Rock Annual" book in the "New Faces in Rock" section in 1980. 2)The Maroons deliver exhilarating, highly melodic pop music that is sugary sweet, but not afraid to rock. Frontman John Moen has played drums for such artists as Elliot Smith, The Spinanes and Heatmiser, and is a current member of both Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks and The Decemberists. Keyboardist Mike Clark also plays guitar for Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks, guitarist Jim Talstra was a member of Minus 5 and John Cox is a member of Satan's Pilgrims.
