After frontman Booker T. Jones and guitarist Steve Cropper left stax records the remaining members of Booker T. & The MG's Donald "Duck" Dunn and Al Jackson, Jr. recruited Bobby Manuel to replace Cropper and Carson Whitsett to replace Jones. They shortened the band name to MG's (=Memphis Group) and released two singles and an album receiving no commercial success, but some good reviews by music critics.
