It all began for The Lyricist Law, born Kevin Kelley, when he lived in New York. "You had the stoop and the courts and not much else... I was short so basketball wasn't exactly my favorite thing out of the two. Now on the stoop alot could be done, shit almost everything was done on the stoop. So that's when i started freestylin', battlin', rhyming in general. I remember when I won my first battle...I must have been like eleven years old. The older kids, Charles and his brother willie, Big Mike, Kenny "Eagle", Had us young bucks paired off into crews and we had a rhyme fight behind the school. I never forgot that feeling.. when Willie and Havier said i carried my team and smoked the rest. Granted at the time my rhymes we're fuckin garbage... like "1,2,3 on the M-I-C, no one can rhyme like the K-E-V" But i mean i was battling other lil kids so.. it was dope. After that, anytime i had a chance to get that feeling, i grabbed it." Later on he moved to Florida...
