Hailing from Utah, Daniel Fischer (Rotten Musicians, Fisch Loops) had an idea to collaborate with some musical peers in hopes of creating something different and new. He casually sent some tracks to Michael Gross (Michael Gross and the Statuettes) and Matt Glass (Michael Gross and the Statuettes), and asked them if they would be interested in adding vocals, lyrics, and additional instrumentation to the tracks and see what happens. What happened was The Lazy Waves. Creative distractions tempt the muse and The Lazy Waves are no exception to that thought. The Waves are a ‘Happy’ three piece group without all that unimaginative cheer. ‘Happy’ in a soothing sort of way. Think ‘Tears For Fears’ over break beats. Their debut project of the same name is a hook filled chain reaction of sonic indie-airness. The lulling vocal talent of Michael Gross come together perfectly with the joyous melodies and assimilates into the sample-collaging of Daniel Fischer’s colorfully dense production. Perfectly calculated textures of keyboard emphasis are sprinkled in throughout the long play by Matt Glass. Don’t bother pressing the ‘Not Interesting’ button , the ten tracks of melodic strut and breezy pop eclecticism is not only easy on the ears but a welcome breath of fresh air in this post modern ruse of generic musical soundscapes.
