The Jones Girls were an American R&B vocal trio from Detroit, Michigan, consisting of sisters Brenda, Shirley, and Valorie Jones. They began recording with GM Records in 1970 and later achieved success in the late 1970s and 1980s with Philadelphia International Records under Gamble & Huff. Their best-known single was "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" (1979), which reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a Top 5 R&B hit, earning a gold certification. Other notable singles included "I Just Love The Man" (1980), which reached number 9 on the R&B chart, and "Nights Over Egypt" (1981), which peaked at number 23. The sisters performed as backup singers for artists such as Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, and on Linda Clifford's 1978 album "If My Friends Could See Me Now". They also contributed to Tower of Power's disco-themed 1979 album "Back on the Streets". After the group’s fourth U.S. album, "On Target", Shirley Jones pursued a solo career, achieving a number one R&B hit with "Do You Get Enough Love" from her 1986 debut album "Always in the Mood". Valorie Jones died in Detroit on December 2, 2001, at the age of 45. Brenda later moved to Atlanta and performed with her four-piece band, and subsequently relocated to New York. She died on April 3, 2017, in Wilmington, Delaware, after being struck by vehicles at age 62.
