Coming out of the early days of Northern CA’s 924 Gilman-fueled punk rock renaissance, The Invalids formed in the spring of 1993. Original members were Scott (guitar/vocals), Sean (drums), and Tony (bass), three teenagers from Santa Rosa, CA, an hour north of San Francisco. Teaching themselves how to play their instruments in their parents’ living rooms and garages, The Invalids used lawnmowers for mic stands and buckets and lawn chairs for drums, before graduating to substandard ‘real’ equipment and taking their show on the road. From 1993 to 1997, the Invalids played countless gigs in and around their hometown (sharing the stage with the likes of AFI, The Bouncing Souls, Jawbreaker, and Fifteen), released three 7” EPs (on Lookout, Second Guess, and Wedge Records), a full length CD (on Second Guess Records, re-released in 2007 by Insubordination Records) and toured parts of the continental United States and Hawaii. In 1997, the move from adolescence to adulthood damped the band’s enthusiasm for their decidedly juvenile form of pop-punk, and the members moved on to different projects, musically and otherwise, until, thirteen years later,The Invalids were asked to play a 1990’s themed reunion show at The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA.
