The Howlin’ Shibanski is Mina Demian's blues project. It started in 2010 and has gone through 3 different lineups. Now, it’s a solo project. The Howlin' Shibanski is about blues music because that’s the history and legacy of the project, but the Shibanski is now blues and more. There is folk, ballads, soul, and country. The songs are about women, pain, politics, social issues, religion, hypocrisy, love. Sometimes, they’re stories and other times, they’ll be fables or ideas. Think throaty singing like Tom Waits, loud belting like Screaming Jay Hawkins, lyrics full of images, and songs about the inner lives we often don’t want to face. Influences are Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Leadbelly.
