Artist
The Hotdamns are old-time country/rock and roll formed in Richmond, Virginia. Jay Lindsey (bass), Danielle Ahart (vocals, keys), David Reed Hughes (guitar, vocals), Kelsey Miller (violin, lead guitar), and Jeff Lay (drums) make up this dynamic quintet. Their original songs include crowd-pleasing "Walk" and "Small Creature" to epic "Vanquished" and sullen "Yankee By Birth," among a slew of others. Covering songs by Patsy Cline to Tom Waits, the Hotdamns exude a feeling from an era long ago bridged with present-day rocking. New album ...And Justice for Y'all showcases the Hotdamns core plus new drummer Jeff Lay. Sing along with Ahart and Hughes to country ballads ("This Here Heart", "Hit and Run"), Alice in Chains-esque country rockers ("That Which Doesn't Make Us Stronger") and truck stop stompers ("Yes I Do (But Not With You)"). Kelsey Miller shreds on lead guitar and makes us weep with throat-choking violin. Jay Lindsey keeps the low-end rhythm going on bass and clawhammers his way into our hearts on banjo ("Gina Lynn"). Porn stars, drug addiction, and getting caught by the law are juxtaposed with beats your grandfather will enjoy and familiar subjects like love and loss. These seven tracks will make your heart yearn for more.... User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
