Conceived by two high school friends in hopes to meet girls and to make good hip-hop music, Bear (Kenneth Bakke) and Wags (Nathan Wagoner) created The Highgrounds. Influenced by acts like Atmosphere, Brother Ali, P.O.S., Blue Scholars and more, The Highgrounds started trying their luck in bring some attention to their side of the world, Oregon. So in the summer of 2009, when the two friend were starting their sophomore year of college, they began making beats and writing lyrics. Writing about the everyday life and keeping honest with themselves, these two emcees have found a home in hip-hop music and hope to make a home in the hip-hop community. Putting a twist on the classic one emcee, one producer, both rap and both produce beats for the group. Hailing from Eugene, Oregon both Bear and Wags knew at a young age that music was where they found themselves. Whether it was then, now or in the future, they both knew that the only real passion they ever had or will ever have was going to revolve around music. Now in the process of completing The Highgrounds' first album, the two emcees are finding themselves right where they knew they would.
