The Hammer Party are a Noise Rock band from Providence, RI. The band was formed out of the ashes of Hot Knives who had a show booked with locals The White Mice. When Hot Knives disbanded the remaining members St. Jacques (vocals) and Von Croce (drum machine and bass) decided to keep the spot on the show by recruiting Andy Newman (guitar) to form a Big Black tribute band calling themselves The Hammer Party after the album of the same name. The band played a few more shows and quickly started writing their own material and strictly sticking to originals only. By the end of 2018 the band decided to drop the drum machine and adopt a more organic sound by Jon Von Croce switching to drums and friend and fan of the band Justin Silvia playing bass. This incarnation didn't last long due to Von Croce leaving the band. In his place Joe Propatier of Scarce, The Bevis Frond and Jim Rose Circus was now sitting behind the drum kit. A few new songs were written and the band debuted the material for a year's worth of live shows recording their debut album Smashed Hits in September of 2019 at DUSK in Providence, adding the finishing touches in June 2020 at Machines With Magnets in Pawtucket, RI. The album was released digitally on October 30, 2020. Tragedy struck with the sudden death of Andy Newman on November 2020 weeks before the LP was released on the local Psychic Static label.
