The young and creative George Purves of Bristol, England spawned The Hailstones [[url=http://www.myspace.com/thehailstones]Myspace] (formerly, The Robbery) after efforts with Monkton Combe classmates in Elysia. Band members also include Owen Fung, Ben Brzezicki, and Purves' mother, Vicky. The Hailstones' first album, Theodore and the Spectres, debuted mid-2005. It follows the story of a young boy who discovers a secret hallway under his garden and, by exploring the worlds hidden behind its many doors, learns some difficult and often shocking truths about adult life. Purves is currently working on his sophomore album, entitled Midwayer. He writes: "While not having a specific 'concept' or story to follow this time, there are several key themes that I'm exploring in this album, the main ones being childhood memories and how they relate to my life now, anxieties about adulthood, and the search for a hidden magic in the world." The album's progress can be monitored on Purves' blog. The band gets its name from the song "Failand Story," due to appear on Midwayer. Previous to Theodore and the Spectres, Purves collaborated with Monkton classmate Owen Fung on an instrumental album entitled Sachiko's Seasons, under the guise Waterboatmen, formerly Ex-Tap Dancer [[url=http://www.myspace.com/mashuusachiko]Myspace] released by The Lightning Tree Stories label in 2007 [[url=http://www.myspace.com/thelightningtreestories]Myspace].
