The Guthries were a Canadian country rock band, active in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Originally formed by Ruth Minnikin and Dale Murray, the band included their respective siblings Gabe Minnikin and Brian Murray, as well as high school friends Serge Samson and Matt Mays. Early line-ups included Nick Bevan-John (Hotel Faces, Jack MacDonald, Ceti Alpha) and Tim-Jim Baker (Matt Mays & El Torpedo). The band's first album was Off Windmill, released in 2000. Mays subsequently left the band in 2002, just prior to the release of the band's second release, the self-titled The Guthries. The band toured extensively throughout Canada and the UK. Following that album, however, the band members each began pursuing solo projects, and have not released another Guthries album. Below is the old bio written by Dale and Brian's sister Amy. The Guthries are a small band with no less than four and no greater than five members of average height or higher. Their names range anywhere from Dale, Brian, and Serge, to Gabe, and Ruth. The Guthries have a sound most commonly compared to the noise a wild goat makes when eating tin cans. If you were to see The Guthries perform live you might think to yourself,"Well, that's The Guthries"- and you would have hit the nail right on the head. The Guthries have had a lot of big, funny, companies with capital letter names such as CCMA, CMT, BBC, UNCUT, MOJO, CBC, MIANS and the like say "Well isn't that interesting? Good for them!"
