The Gordon Highlanders were formed in 1794 due to the need for more men in the battle against Napoleon. Rich with many deeds of heorism and gallantry, the Regiment has a reputation for steadfast action that is second to none; hence the Regimental motto "Bydand", that is, "Byde An Fecht", which means to "stand and fight".
