The Go Away Birds happened by chance while Catherine Ireton was recording an album with Belle and Sebastian called God Help the Girl in Glasgow, United Kingdom and while Michael John McCarthy was preparing Zoey van Goey's Scottish summer tour. Conveniently located around the corner from the studio was Michael John's house, and so in between cups of tea and reminiscing, the pair recorded an album's worth of songs in his living room. Four of those songs comprise their debut EP "Bells", which is available to download from www.thegoawaybirds.com until the end of April 2009. Stuart Murdoch called round to add a duet vocal to "Green Jackets" and MJ's flatmate Dan Clements contributed clarinet to "Highwire". Catherine & MJ plan to make a brand new EP of songs available from www.thegoawaybirds.com in May.
