1) The Gems, Swedish rock trio formed in 2023 Swedish rock trio The Gems – featuring ex-Thundermother members vocalist Guernica Mancini, drummer Emlee Johansson and guitarist/bassist Mona “Demona” Lindgren – rise from the ashes with their debut album, 'Phoenix, set to be released in 2024 via Napalm Records! The Gems’ extraordinary potential was proven after the unveiling of their very first standalone single, “Like A Phoenix”, in summer 2023. The single immediately landed at No. 2 on the German Rock Radio Airplay Charts and turned the heads of avid rock fans around the world. 2) The Gems, American doo-wop R&B group formed in 1962: The Gems' career began for Leonard and Phil Chess' Chess/Checker/Cadet setup as the Lovettes (no connection to the Lovettes on Carnival Records). Marshall High School students Jessica Collins (lead), Verdine Harrison, Theresa Washburn, Dorothy Hucklebee, and Bertha Watts cut two unsuccessful singles on Checker Records: "One More Year" b/w "The Crush" (1962) and "Hands Off" b/w "A Love of Mine." Blind pianist/writer Raynard Miner was the secret Gem, and he and Billy "Roquel" Davis, either together or in other combinations, supplied nearly all their material. Roquel was Chess' A&R director, but despite his clout, the Gems never charted high or established a significant career. Miner accompanied them on piano, but not at all of their performances.
