The Futura Bold is a three piece band fronted by ex-Pleasure Club singer James Hall, with Chris Piskun on guitars and Bruce Butkovich on bass. Hall is a veteran performer owing as much to James Brown as he does David Bowie. The band officially came together in 2005, but its roots started much earlier. Says Chris:“I saw James play with Love and Rockets in Athens. He busted out this trumpet in the middle of the set and I saw all these girls near me swoon. I said to myself ‘I want to be in that band...” Chris Piskun and James met in 2000 when his band at the time was looking for a guitarist. “We became friends from that point on.” James Hall is no stranger to Atlanta, has logged over a thousand shows on both sides of the Atlantic, but until 2005 called New Orleans his home. “James came to town with little else besides these songs he’d written, so I thought it was a good idea to track them,” says Bruce. “We took our time making this record, but I think it was worth it.” Although it started out as a James Hall solo album, it morphed into an entirely different entity. “This record is truly a collaborative effort, we had numerous limitations, so we each had to step up to make this record what it is.” What it is, has been described as “Blue-eyed Soul from the Burn Unit” by some and “one of the most fiercely original and listenable albums out” by others. the Futura Bold, the self-titled debut, will be available March 26, 2010 in multiple formats. www.thefuturabold.com www.myspace.
