The Forensic Scene has always been a vehicle for Anthony DeCaria's diverse guitar styles, fragile vocals, and nice-guys-finish-last lyrics -- a combination that owed as much to George Gershwin as to the pre-grunge noise of such mid-Eighties alternative pioneers as Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. From early on, journalists tagged DeCaria, known for his lack of interest in the up and coming artist lifestyle, as nothing more than a hobbyist musician. But The Forensic Scene is steadfastly laying the groundwork for the shape of modern folk to come. After splitting ways upon college graduation with musical partner and bassist Mike Zielinski, DeCaria began recording in his new hometown of Storm Lake, a small college town in northwest Iowa. At the time, DeCaria played only guitar. After harvesting the early fruits of his full-time engineering career, he built a home studio and began learning other instruments. His new band, The Forensic Scene, recorded three self-published albums on the zelepukin!records label from 2002 through 2005. DeCaria moved on through Nebraska, South Dakota, and onto Nashville, Tennessee, where he made the rounds in the country music songwriting scene with decidedly un-country music. He soon found himself moving back to Detroit, focused on his engineering career, and settling into married life.
