There are at least 3 bands with this name: 1) The Firebirds (Groningen, NL) Formed in January 1991 when the long-running instrumental surf outfit The Five Fantastic Firebirds shortened its name and cranked up the fuzz, The Firebirds quickly became flag-bearers of the 60s garage-punk revival that centred on Groningen’s VERA club. Founding guitarists Hans Dallinga and Albert-Jan “Appie” Scheper kept their twangy surf roots, but added Farfisa organ, breakneck tempos and ragged, tambourine-splashed vocals that nodded to The Sonics, The Seeds and Dutch Nederbeat classics. Today Although sporadic since the mid-2000s, the band still reunites for one-off club shows—often advertised with the tongue-in-cheek slogan “Go Hooter Surfin’ with Groningen’s loudest garage combo.” Many members can be found in related acts such as The Hot Pockets, The Hillbilly Holler and Das Aldi Combo, but the battered Firebirds Vox amps are never far away. 2) The Firebirds are a heavy psych band who made one album in 1969.
