The Family Daptone

In 2019 the Daptone record label announded the release of its 100th 7-inch single. This special released featured an unprecedented collaboration of talent from the label's roster. The A side ("Hey Brother") was credited to The Family Daptone, whereas the flip side ("Soul Fugue") was recorded by The 100 Knights Orchestra, a massive ensemble comprised of every horn player the label has ever worked with. Producer Bosco Mann achieved the gargantuan task of cramming them all into the studio simultaneously to perform his epic composition. Anyone who was lucky enough to catch Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings’ final performance at Prospect Park Summerstage was lucky enough to see/hear this stunning piece of music in real time.
