The Fabulous Farquahr was a an often humorous pop / folk group of the late 1960s. Hailing from the state of Connecticut, United States, and primarily active in and around New England on the American East Coast, their name also appears on their record sleeves as Fabulous Farquahr. They changed their name into Farquahr in 1970. Brothers Dennis, Frank and Bobby McGowan, along with songwriter Doug Lapham, disguised themselves and Barnswallow, Hummingbird, Flamingo and Condor Farquahr, with Farquahr being their supposed shared 'family name', performing a strange mix of comedy folk. Prior to 1967 they had recorded two singles for Warner Brothers as The McGowan Boys, but after the name change and some live dates in the New York area they were signed to Verve Forecast to record a full album: Fabulous Farquahr (1968), a self-titled album, although the band name on the record label was The Fabulous Farquahr. The LP tried to cash in one the then popular vaudevillian trend. The singles pulled from the album (notably 'Sister Theresa's East River Orphanage' and 'My Island') did bot fare well commercially and the album bombed. The band released a stand-alone single in 1969 ('Hollywood Ending'), were subsequently dropped by Verve, but kept their spirits up, continued to perform and landed a deal with Elektra, where they released a self-titled album in 1970 as Farquahr. They returned to the original band name for a reunion album in 1982: The Third Album, credited to The Fabulous Farquahr
