Honoring the Morphine legacy but not being restricted by it is a very tough challenge. A group going by the name The (Ever Expanding) Elastic Waste Band had been playing for a couple of years before even considering to cover Morphine tunes. The obvious difference between some random group playing Morphine songs and this one is that members Dana Colley (baritone sax) and Jerome Dupree (drums) were former members of Morphine. The only difference between Morphine and …Waste Band is that Jeremy Lyons, who commissioned a two-string bass just like Sandman, had taken over on slide guitar and the bass. And so, the legacy of Morphine continues on. The record doesn’t have an official title and goes by: Members Of Morphine with Jeremy Lyons / The (Ever Expanding) Elastic Waste Band. It’s a collection of originals with some tracks from Cure For Pain. They also included a rare standout from the Morphine catalog called ‘Pulled Over the Car’. Such a great addition to this phenomenal record. The 1999 death of Sandman took a big hit on the Boston music scene and all fans of the band. If you’ve been missing the excessively unique Morphine sound you knew and loved, you really won’t be disappointed with this album. I recommend the CD so you get the amazing artwork as well. New band was founded at Cambridge, United States, in 2009. Members: Dana Colley (sax, double sax, harmonica) Jeremy Lyons (vocals, 2-string slide bass, guitars) Jerome Dupree (drums, percussion) Official Site: www.myspac
