active from 1964 to 1969, roughly, The Connoisseurs were an almost completely unknown beat group from Liverpool, United Kingdom, who never officially released a record in their day. Which is rather strange, as things looked quite good for them around 1965. They scooped the 'Northern Beat Contest' in 1965 and came second in the national 'All Britain Finals' in London later that year. They then got the opportunity to record guitarist Dave Kent's 'Make Up Your Mind' at Abbey Road with the great George Martin, producer of The Beatles. Yet, it didn't happen for them. The record remained unreleased and so did further acetate recordings. The group split up in 1969. Several of their recordings have since popped up on 'rare Mersey Beat' compilations.
