The Cockatoo Valley Song Group (CVSG) is a non-auditioned children’s group from Portland, Victoria specialising in folk tunes from many cultures. The CVSG has travelled as far as Melbourne, Adelaide, Coober Pedy and Alice Springs in search of new Australian friends from unfamiliar cultures, collecting songs along the way while maintaining an ethos of respect by only publically presenting songs that have been taught or endorsed first-hand by a representative of the culture in question. In 2009 the CVSG performed Giant Squids with Adam Hardcastle for a Baterz recording project involving many talented musicians including Deborah Conway and Tex Perkins and have subsequently worked with artists such as Mal Webb, Deborah Cheetham and Adam Page. The CVSG performs regularly at festivals and celebrations and received a special invitation from the Governor of Victoria to present their entire repertoire of 42 songs in 20 languages in the grand ballroom at Government House on Australia Day 2011.
