Since 2000, a cluster of the finest jazz musicians, crate-diggers, producers and DJs from Tāmakai Makaurau (perhaps better known as Auckland, New Zealand), have come together in an ever-mutating musical collective, The Circling Sun. In their music, Latin rhythms infuse spiritual and modal jazz sounds, with the group acknowledging inspiration from the likes of Mulatu Astatke, Alice Coltrane, Yusef Latif and Pharoah Saunders, playing music that is "an education in, and homage to, the great Afro-American innovators."
