The Champion Theory originally started as a solo project by Damon Fischio in the fall of 2008. While attending Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, he wrote songs and performed acoustic shows around the local area. After returning home to North Ogden, Utah from a year of school, Damon contacted Quin Dixon, whom he had previously performed with, and asked him to come rehearse with him. After a few jam sessions, Damon decided to turn the solo project into a full member band, as he said, "Playing with a full band is just too fun." They approached Damon's little brother, Kelby Fischio, to play bass and their friend, Trevor Nelson, to play guitar. It was then agreed that The Champion Theory would be heading in a new musical direction than it originally was. After writing music and perfoming shows for two months, The Champion Theory approached Dark Sun Recoring Studios for help in producing their first CD. After a few more weeks of planning and performing, Trevor decided it was best that he depart from the band as he progressed further into his medical career. With no hard feelings and the band wishing him the best, Trevor finished playing the rest of the shows that the band had scheduled and went on his way. With three members remaining, the band decided to still pursue the recording of their debut EP while they searched for a new guitarist.
