Headed by Melissa Cupernall (Guitars/Pianos/Vocals), who created the band in 2001 while attending Purchase College, The Carnies are NOT the same band as the Christian band also called the Carnies. Cupernall, along witha "Potpourri of magical mystery musicians" involved with the band (including Kelly Powers of Walpole,Ma/Hartford/Manhattan School of Music), released their debut album "Hardcore Nursery Rhyme Renditions" on November 3, 2006 (http://www.myspace.com/thecarnies). The Carnies are highly influenced by artists such as Pixies, PJ Harvey, Captain Beefheart, and Kate Bush.
