Artist
The British Independent Artists Association is an association of artists and arts groups with a national profile. It has branches in Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands. The organisation was formed in 1991. In January 2004 the first International Convention of British Independent Artists took place at the Salford Lace Market. It is an independent and non-profit organisation supported by Arts Council England. Its aim is to raise awareness of the work of independent artists and the artists' organisations and to promote the value of the artists' work. The British Independent Artists Association, as a registered charity, is supported by private donations. Some of its income is derived from its members who pay an annual membership fee. It also raises funds from other sources such as arts council grants, and has also raised funds from its members by charging a small amount for membership of the association.
