(For the Dutch band, 'Blue Lyres', from Leiden in NL see http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/Blue+Lyres ) Founded in London in the UK, 'The Blue Lyres' are regarded as being members of the Ambrose Orchestra who were at their height of popularity in the 1930s. The band was created by band-leader Bert Ambrose who secured the group a residency at the Embassy Club and May Fair Hotel. The Dorchester also hosted them. The Blue Lyres or Ambrose Orchestra acquired the top Saturday night spot for BBC radio broadcasts and had royalty among its fans. Over two hundred HMV recordings were made during 1930-1932 and during this period, singer Sam Browne delivered most of the vocals.
