The Blinking Underdogs are a sextet out of Miami, Florida who are adding a whole new element to the punk-ska scene. They are infusing various musical characteristics into one punk-ska sound, like pieces of a puzzle. Members originate from various parts of the country and five of the six members attend the University of Miami School of Music where they are pursuing their lives of music. Oscar Issac, guitar and lead vocals, is from Miami and acts in local theatre productions. Nick Speck, bass, and Keith Cooper, saxophone, are from New York and are seniors at UM. Keith Cooper, saxophone. Bill Sommer, drums, is from St. Louis, Missouri and is a senior at UM. Matt LaPlant, guitar, and Alan Mills, trombone, are both from Florida and attend UM as well. The band has various influences ranging from jazz and funk artists to bands like Sublime, Goldfinger, The Cure and Fishbone. The Blinking Underdogs have been showing their faces to a lot around South Florida playing shows with acts such as New Found Glory, Drexel, MU330, RX Bandits, Edna's Goldfish, and more. The past year's shows includes the SONY Music Showcase in Daytona Beach, IUMA's MusicOMania 2000 Battle of the Bands competition, ZETAFEST 2000, and VANS Warped Tour 2000. They have released their debut CD, Last Words, and also just finished 6 brand new songs in the studio. Look for the Blinking Underdogs to be performing at venues throughout South Florida.
