The Beard of Zu; an independent group based in Peebles, the Scottish Borders, Scotland, which combines progressive metal riffs alongside technical acoustic sounds. The unique genre, influenced by rock, metal and hip-hop leaves no barriers to their politically motivated, innovative style. Consisting of four band members all from close by towns, the four boys met during secondary school. Michael Jewitt (lead singer/guitarist) initiated the band between two other members Eirinn MacKay (drummer) and Matthew Mcgarry (bassist). Originally the band remained as a three piece launching their debut self-titled EP in 2013 for free. The group continued to develop it's own style and sound through many influences. Political discrepancies make for interesting and meaningful lyrics, a long with Michaels emotional spectrum. The boys passion for technical and interesting music created a somewhat different style of playing and sound consisting of unusual breakdowns. The heavy rhythm and blues influences provided classic musical quips to drop into original songs providing satisfaction amongst the technical chaos. Fraser Walker (guitarist/singer) was lead to the band after the debut EP release, bringing another level to the sound as well as a more bluesy influence. After releasing their second EP titled "Deal" after the main track on the EP the boys continued to play across Scotland in 2014.With new and inspiring material coming from all places the band progresses, infinitely strengthening
