Arising from previous bands, the members of The Astonics came together in the summer of 2008 in Groningen, The Netherlands. Marco de Vries (guitar and vocals) and Klaas Groen (bass and vocals) founded The Astonics. Floor Groot (keys) and Jos Huese (drums) joined them later on. The Astonics is a band that can best be described as eclectic pop music. The latest addition to the band is Klaas Jansma (vocals) The biggest influences come from singer-songwriter, blues, country and funk. The songwriting and the blues of John Mayer, the mood and feeling of Coldplay, the harmonies of Venice, the piano of Ben Folds, the country of Brad Paisley and the rock and funkvibe of Lenny Kravitz are great sources of inspiration for the style that The Astonics play.
