about

There were two bands called The Ammonites. 1. The Ammonites were an early 1980s ska band from Brighton, UK. They released one 7" single Big Eaters / Dressed To Kill in 1981. 2. The Ammonites were a jangly/twee indie pop group from Leicester, United Kingdom, that formed in 1987. After a string of 4-Track recordings on the Rutland Records signature tape format, the band eventually released a 7" single E.P. Head Full Of Strange on vinyl by Rutland Records in 1991, engineered/produced by Alan Jenkins of The Deep Freeze Mice and Ruth’s Refrigerator fame. Fanzines took a significant interest in The Ammonites and flexi-disks were released in Japan and a split Flexi on the Boshi label They're rumours of Rutland Records making a retrospective CD with a working title “Rain and Ruin”, but nothing as been substantiated as of yet. "When Rob left to go to university, he played bass for use since 1988 and had been the final piece in the jigsaw to becoming a “proper band”. I think when he left, the momentum was gone and the balance was all wrong. We replaced him for a few weeks or months but never gigged again. Shane (guitarist 1989 – 1991) and I were listening to totally different music and seeing less and less of Robyn socially; and In the end, Robyn said he was calling it a day and it was clear that there could be no Ammonites without him. So that was it." Discography Head Full Of Strange - 7" Single E.P. 1991 Rutland Records. Current Robyn eventually moved on to form Ambrose Tompki
